Menies Beach in Crete
When the weather is nice in Crete, which it is for
about 300 days a year, there are few places as
stunningly beautiful to live.
The road to Menies Beach is quite rough, so make sure
you only tackle it with a robust 4x4 that has
low-range gears. I drive a Suzuki Jimny, which is
ideal for these roads due to its narrow width. The
dirt track is 20km long, which will take about 1.5
hours of driving either way. Take your time and enjoy
the views - your car will thank you.
The cell phone reception on the beach is good enough
to connect to the internet with GPRS. A bit slow,
but it does work. Just make sure you take lots of
batteries along, since you are not going to find a
power outlet close by :)
When you get back from Menies, pop in to visit the
Argentina fish restaurant in Kolimbari for some
excellent local dishes.
There is an easier route to Menies: In summer, you
could hop onto a tourist boat from either Platanias
or Kolimbari and spend the day on the beach.

After an afternoon spent at Menies, I head back to ADSL.
